AZAGE “ACE” ASFAW…Ya’ll Know About Him??

AZAGEBorn Azage Asfaw, “Ace” bounced around quite a bit as a child. From Montreal to Toronto and eventually the Westside of Atlanta, he experienced the pain and the reality of street culture early. Without having any parents in his life he moved in with his aunt and uncle and grew up in the SWATS (South West Atlanta) alike colleagues Goodie Mob, Outkast, T.I and Killer Mike. Azage was once a member of a four member group at Mays High School.  One talent show in particular caught the eyes of the R&B super group 112.  After a production deal fell through he decided to put his fate in his own hands and start his own label, The High Society. Azage is the first act slated to drop amongst the label.  Azage’s appearance on the Source’s Unsigned Hype Tour gave him quick buzz in the streets of Atlanta and made him relevant on the local mixtape circuit.  Heralded  as the next best thing in Hip Hop, Azage has started to bang on the doors of the industry. In 2008 he teamed up with Dj Nice to drop the critically acclaimed  “A Different World” mixtape. Nice has been on MTV Mixtape Mondays and has also worked with Joe Budden, Juelz Santana and Joell Ortiz. Azage’s latest effort, “The Bars Outbreak” reached critical acclaim quickly. It started out as weekly freestyles for 10 weeks on major blog sites and social networks like Twitter and Myspace. The demand for more material caused Ace to put it all out into one tape with additional songs. A variety of media outlets have given the project much praise and recognition. Everyone from Hip Hop DX to Get Right Music, Rock The Dub and Kevin Nottingham have co-signed the young hot lyricist. His laid back and raw narratives depict the everyday street tales of his life and his peers. His mini movies allow you to witness why he is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.  His flow contains charm, witty punch lines, pain and struggle that his fans simply relate to. There is a reason why his reputation holds weight. His ambition and perseverance to succeed through adversity exemplifies his future longevity and why he is called “the Ace” of this rap game.

I’m an MC and here is The Bars Outbreak! The Bars Outbreak was originally a weekly freestyle series for 10 weeks. The material was created for music and entertainment blogs. Now the tape has expanded into an entire mixtape with additional material.  I’m glad you can review the material and post the feature on your site. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Thanks much for your time. Below is the link for your readers and attached are some pictures, covers and my biography. This is a brand new link. The original link had over 1,000 downloads last week but the decompression no longer works on the zip.
Peace

If you are like me. You sat in front of TvOne Sunday night and watched “Life After.” In case you missed it featured Bell Biv Devoe(OMG YES). It was a great episode and in my 22 years of living I must see them perform. They look great and its great to know they are still hanging tight. If anyone doesn’t know who BBD is they are part of New Edition and branched out and became a group. So I decided today on music Monday I would post some videos from the group.

Who Are The Urban Nerdz?

“Music Monday is on Tuesday this week due to technical difficulties*

The Urban Nerdz

The Urban Nerdz

I’ve been following this group or a while now. I can safe with conviction that I am truly a fan. On this site we just want to showcase talent so we like to introduce a group in their own words. I believe that it is better to hear from the group than a *critic*. This way, you the audience can form your own opinions about the group and their music. In their own words here it goes.

“What is originality ? ….. Here is a better question for you , to ask yourself and search deep within to find an answer. Who embodies originality anymore ? For you to come up with an answer to that question you would have to look deep inside and think about the characteristics and definition of that word which include freshness , creativity , novelty , idea of method or performance as well as the ability to think or express oneself in an independent and individual manner . I believe all of that to be true except for the portion about oneself … there once was a man who said all great things come in three’s and even that analogy can relate and equate to music , because the great thing that has come in three’s is Ace Boogie , Kay Special and Bueffard Mallary also know to you as “The U.N”. A collective group of three young talented males from different environments that come together and comprise a future virtuoso in the game .
The distinctive originality that The U.N portaits is what helps separate them and stand astray from the normal and usual group in music . Being able to appeal and attack all markets is what helps them become international and iconic stars over one hit wonders and overnight celebrities . Being one step ahead and trend setters instead of followers is what plays to their advantage and helps them in this modern new school era of hip hop . While artist are classified as back-packers , drug lords , gangster rappers and swag stars The U.N are different . Which is what takes of more than anything else , while artist are going “right” because thats whats selling , appealing and cool they are going “left” because thats who they are and who they desire to be . It seems hip – hop has turned into a game of high school , because everyone is struggling to be in with the popular crowd . Maybe thats why records arent selling and everybody is doing horrendous when it comes to selling records .
Ace Boogie (born Aaron Campbell) was born in Silver Spring , Maryland . Growing up Boogie had a huge musical upbringing with a plethora of different sounds which on any given day could range from the Temptations , Bob Marley , Run – DMC or Sade . With this wide variety and great understanding for different sounds and different genre’s of music it helped cultivate and mold Boogie into a wonderful story teller and amazing artist . The oddball of the group going against the grain , being different in his own but magical way helps appeal and allows you to open your eyes to his world. Kay Special (born Kenny Benjamin later to be change to Kenny Benjamin Dubuisson) was born in Boston , Massachusetts . Kspec had to deal with a ton of adversities and hardships growing up which at times tried to stand as road blocks that he overcame . Which helped him realize to take nothing for granted which is evident when you listen to the distinctive wordplay and passion and heartfelt lines he says . Bueffard Mallary (born Jovan Jose Reveron) was born in New Haven , Conneticut and bred with a very rich musical foundation having an ex-drummer and dj father as well as a mind blowing and gifted lyricist mother only helps explain half the story of why he is so gifted . Pure genius and passion is the other half of the story , gravitating towards Jay-Z , Pharcyde , A Tribe Called Quest and Talib Kweli show why his lyrical presence is brought forward and distributed throughout his music .
Originality is the true key on why this is the next group to take over and be destined for greatness , listening to songs like “Konnechiwah / Asain Girls , Fix It or The Progress shows why they are the future of what is to be heard and to be expected as well as to be reenacted and copied by a cult following of the younger generation. While tons of people do the same thing over and over again The U.N is working hard day in and day out to create new ways to distribute and promote their selves to the masses and be heard by fans . Working hard on their craft and putting in countless time and effort to make themselves better and generate more fans they are truly a label’s dream .With in the hip hop game , old trends dying out and everyone being the same thing in just a miniscule or in a slightly different form , The U.N are destin to be the next big thing and face of the music world . With the arrival of their first mixtape they are proven that they are more than an “Intermission”.”

You have to respect their outlook on music. It’s refreshing to see artist put some thoughts into their image as well as music. if you would like to get in contact with the group, below are some links to their sites.

We have an acoustic singer from Brighton,U.K. I am a fan of acoustic music so here he goes in his own words.

“Unsigned 22 year old English DIY songwriter currently living near Brighton (UK). All the songwriting, vocals, voices and music is created by Stuart Newman. He has a mellow acoustic, lyrical sound that resonates. Fans have described the music as “sunny days on a rainy sky” and “A Beatley Nick Drake”. It’s music for when it’s late at night you need to think or be on your own. The music sometimes drifts towards the political… sometimes towards the quirky… Thinking music, for the thinking music fan. With influences ranging from right across the spectrum, Newman’s writing draws from different creative pools, creating songs with different personalities. Fans have often compared Stuart Newman’s music to that of Elliott Smith, Bon Iver, Sparklehorse and Leonard Cohen.

Some of his successes to date include having radio play on BBC6 Music, BFBS Radio and being played in gas stations throughout Connecticut on the AMP Radio Network. Newman has also had an interview on Chichester (UK) local radio at SpiritFM.

Newman’s current album project “Single But Defective” has initially been offered as a free download in order to continue to spread the music far and wide internationally.

Newman’s right-handed, and yet he plays guitar left-handed. Weird.”

He is giving away a free album on his website Stuart Newman. Check out the music it’s pretty cool. You can contact Stuart Newman via his website or twitter or myspace.

SHINOBI NINJA. HI YAH!

Guess what today is?! MUSIC MONDAY!

SHINOBI NINJA

SHINOBI NINJA

Ok here we go. Today we bring ya’ll a group from NYC by the name of SHINOBI NINJA. At first listen you may think you know what this group is about; that is until you switch to the next song and realize it is a completely different genre. When I first heard the group I got a punk, rock, hip hop, metal feel. I looked the group up and found out this is exactly how they describe themselves.

Here is a Bio of the group in their own words: “Formed in a Hell’s Kitchen NYC recording studio in early 2008, Shinobi Ninja is the offspring of Singers Dave Aaron and Baby Girl, Guitarists Maniac Mike and Adriano Morez, Drummer Terminator Dave, and DJ Axis. Combining the forces of songwriters, studio musicians, producers, engineers, dancers, battle djs, and a chef, this “Voltron-esque” rock group bound by a party lifestyle and the love of music, creates an original sound with diverse influences of Hip Hop, Punk, Soul, R&B, and Metal. Prior to forming Shinobi Ninja, each of its members had respective careers in the music industry. Dave Aaron and Adriano Morez had been producers and engineers at Progressive Studios, an Eden of music and personalities, which regularly collided with ferocity, blind passion, and the NYPD. Baby Girl, who worked as a singer and dancer for major label artists like Ricky Martin, Diddy, Cassie, and Santogold, was a fixture in the vocal master class held at Progressive by esteemed vocalist, Craig Derry of the Sugarhill Gang. Twin brothers Maniac Mike and Terminator Dave ran The Sound Machine, a recording studio where they produced their projects and the work of other artists. Terminator Dave also worked as a music supervisor by day and as a busy DJ and drummer by night. Dave regularly appeared all over the east coast with DJ Axis, an accomplished battle and club DJ. As fate would have it, Mike’s career as a session guitarist and studio engineer eventually led him to work at Progressive Studios, where he was introduced to Dave Aaron, Adriano, and Baby Girl. Soon, Terminator Dave and DJ Axis became regulars at the studio through rehearsal and recording sessions shared by the three engineers. After two years of making a living together and countless nights of debauchery, this group of Hell’s Kitchen transplants decided to combine powers and create a force greater than its parts to form the ultimate urban rock supergroup – Shinobi Ninja. Quickly buzzing in NYC for their mega high-energy live performances, the band plays like they’re headlining New Year’s Eve 2K at MSG, headbanging, stagediving, mosh-pitting, and booty shaking their way through each set. Their forthcoming debut EP is 8 tracks of pure party sing-a-long brilliance. Select tracks have been making heavy rounds on Myspace, Facebook, and GarageBand. With a great response from the New York community and beyond, Shinobi Ninja is taking over the world, one sweaty rock circus at a time!”

I like this group a lot. They have at least one song that any person would listen too. The members are so different within themselves being that they all have different musical backgrounds. Sometimes a mix like this wouldn’t work out. Shinobi Ninja has found a way to make it work in their favor. What really drew me to them is that fact that the group doesn’t seem made up for the moment. That is always a good look.

I’ve been a fan of Jeremy Manongdo since his early Youtube days. He’s from San Francisco, Ca. The first time I heard him perform I was amazed that he was so great with instruments and was covering popular songs of the day. His voice is pleasant yet strong, I automatically felt a soulful vibe from him. He is our first Music Monday feature and I thought he was a great choice. We are surfing the web and locally to bring you the best you never heard of.

Here is a preview of why I am such a fan of the artist. So beautiful -he’s a cutie too-.
